On Thursday, October 6, Australia’s fifth seed Nick Kyrgios will face Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in the second round of the 2022 Japan Open.

This will be the two’s first ever meeting!

Nick Kyrgios made a strong start to the Japan Open, easily defeating Chun-Hsin Tseng in straight sets.

The World No. 20 dropped only seven points on his serve, saved the lone break point he faced, and won 86% (25 of 29) of his points on his first delivery to defeat the Taipei player 6-3, 6-1 in 67 minutes.

The Australian has risen back into the top 100 after falling out of the top 100 after starting the year at World No. 93. Following the first-round victory, he improved to 36-10 in 2022.

Kyrgios won his only title of the year in Washington and reached his maiden Grand Slam final in Wimbledon.

A win on Thursday, will put the 27-year-old in his ninth quarterfinal of the season.

On the other side, the 121st in the world in the first round, Kamil Majchrzak defeated Japanese qualifier Sho Shimabukuro 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

Majchrzak, who reached the quarterfinals of the Sofia Open last week, was not broken in the match and saved both break points he faced.

He, too, had five breaking chances in the match, and he took advantage of two of them to win in an hour and 26 minutes.

Majchrzak is 17-14 heading into the second round of the Japan Open. This year, the Pole has appeared in three quarterfinals, finishing as a semifinalist in Pune.

Can he upset Kyrgios in Round 2 and make it to the final eight for the fourth time this year?

But, Kyrgios exhibited his tennis pedigree in the first round despite returning after bit of a break and should be a huge favourite to win this contest!

Tip: Kyrgios to win in straight sets: 1/4
